Study on the Effectiveness of Low Vision Aids in Children with Visual Impairment

Visual impairment restricts children’s learning processes and overall development, creating significant barriers to acquiring education. Low vision rehabilitation services play a crucial role in improving children’s self-confidence and quality of life. The aim of this study was to identify the causes of vision loss among school-aged children with visual impairment and to evaluate the effectiveness of low vision aids in improving their visual function. Demographic information, causes of visual loss, best-corrected visual acuity, and data on the use of low vision devices were collected and subjected to statistical analysis. The leading causes of vision loss were congenital cataract and retinopathy of prematurity, and the use of low vision aids resulted in a marked improvement in visual acuity for the majority of children. These findings highlight that low vision aids are an effective intervention to enhance visual function, support educational attainment, and promote independence among children with visual impairment.
